On the covering radius of translation surfaces

Abstract
Recently, there has been a great amount of work studying randomness in geometry. In particular, this project was motived by the rich existing literature on random surfaces which seeks to answer questions along the general theme of “What does a random surface look like?” In this talk, we will give a brief review of some of the work which has been done to understand the geometry of random surfaces, and we will give preliminary results on the expected covering radius of a family of translation surfaces. This is joint work with Anthony Sanchez and Sunrose Shrestha.
