Geometry of essential singularities

Abstract
Each meromorphic map is locally described as \(z^d\), where \(d\) is an integer number; this is a cornerstone of the theory of Riemann surfaces. What happens at at essential singularity ? We explore this question using the flat structure associated to complex analytic maps.
